So, I was feeling a little sad this morning because Robbie left yesterday for a week in Zurich, and also the windchill outside is -20, and also we don't really have anything good for breakfast in the house, and then I read that today has been scientifically determined to be the most depressing day of the year. I have to admit, I'm narcissistically pleased about the entire world (or maybe it's just the Northern Hemisphere--the article was a bit unclear) taking Robbie's absence and the lack of pastries so hard.
However, I'm sure the torpor in which the city finds itself this morning is only half because of the windchill, and half because everyone (OK, not me) is hung over from the Steelers game last night, or more precisely the second half, when it looked like we were about to be on the losing end of the biggest comeback in playoff history. I'm glad we won, of course, and objectively it was a great game to watch, but it was a bit unnecessarily stressful. I did get to have one of my favorite living-in-Pittsburgh experiences, though, which is watching the postgame fireworks on TV while hearing them echo in my living room. Also, I made nachos, which isn't a living-in-Pittsburgh experience (for that, I probably would have had to refer to it as some sort of salad) but was excellent nonetheless.
And today it's supposed to warm up to a balmy 30, which should open up the colder areas of our house for habitation once again, so that's exciting. Fortunately, Peter started sharing Henry's room last night, so I didn't have to worry about him out there in the tundra of his former room. I can't figure out why that room is consistently fifteen degrees colder than the rest of the house, but back when he was still waking up in the middle of the night I was always secretly glad when I could get out of there and back into my own warm bed, which made me (probably correctly) feel like a terrible mother. So this is better all around. And I'm working on a secret project for Robbie's return, the nature of which I will not divulge here because I understand they have the internet in Switzerland, but that's in our basement, which is balmy even on the coldest winter days. That has to speak poorly of our insulation, but hey, today I'll take it.

Is the Zurich google office the one with the fireman's pole?
I can't even imagine that cold. Good luck.
I'm glad to hear Zurich has something besides banks. I hope Robbie's been eating fondue every day.
